Respite & Recovery for members facing exceptional circumstances

Respite & Recovery is a needs-based service for members experiencing exceptional circumstances that are having a significant effect on their physical or psychological wellbeing.

Where time away is considered an appropriate part of your recovery or support, the Fund may provide a respite break through one of our approved accommodation partners.

This is not a general holiday benefit. Every application is individually assessed to make sure Respite & Recovery is appropriate for your circumstances.

When Respite & Recovery may be appropriate?

Respite & Recovery is intended for members experiencing exceptional circumstances that are having a significant effect on their wellbeing.

Meeting one of the criteria shown does not automatically qualify you for a break. We will consider your current circumstances, the impact they are having on you and whether respite is the most appropriate support.

Respite & Recovery would not normally be provided more than once within a three-year period.

An exceptional recent life event. Such as bereavement, traumatic loss or serious relationship or family circumstances, normally within the previous 3 months.

A serious or life-changing illness. Recently diagnosed or resulting in significant current recovery needs.

An acute injury or recent surgery. Resulting in significant current physical or psychological impact.

Terminal illness

A diagnosed acute mental-health condition. Where respite may be appropriate alongside, or as part of, suitable support or treatment.

Exceptional circumstances outside these time periods may still be considered where there is a clear and significant current welfare need.

Before you apply

Respite & Recovery is a needs-based service. Applications are assessed individually and meeting the criteria does not guarantee that a break will be provided.

Tell us about your circumstances

Your application will ask about what has happened, how it is affecting you now, any support or treatment you are receiving, and why you believe respite would help.
