Exceptional circumstances outside these time periods may still be considered where there is a clear and significant current welfare need.
Respite & Recovery for members facing exceptional circumstances
Respite & Recovery is a needs-based service for members experiencing exceptional circumstances that are having a significant effect on their physical or psychological wellbeing.
Where time away is considered an appropriate part of your recovery or support, the Fund may provide a respite break through one of our approved accommodation partners.
This is not a general holiday benefit. Every application is individually assessed to make sure Respite & Recovery is appropriate for your circumstances.
When Respite & Recovery may be appropriate?
Respite & Recovery is intended for members experiencing exceptional circumstances that are having a significant effect on their wellbeing.
Meeting one of the criteria shown does not automatically qualify you for a break. We will consider your current circumstances, the impact they are having on you and whether respite is the most appropriate support.
Respite & Recovery would not normally be provided more than once within a three-year period.
An exceptional recent life event. Such as bereavement, traumatic loss or serious relationship or family circumstances, normally within the previous 3 months.
A serious or life-changing illness. Recently diagnosed or resulting in significant current recovery needs.
An acute injury or recent surgery. Resulting in significant current physical or psychological impact.
Terminal illness
A diagnosed acute mental-health condition. Where respite may be appropriate alongside, or as part of, suitable support or treatment.
Terms and conditions
These terms outline how Respite and Recovery breaks are reviewed, booked and allocated, ensuring support is provided fairly and appropriately.
Application review
All applications are reviewed by our Clinical Services Manager, with responses provided within seven days. Applicants will be notified if additional information is needed during this process.
Follow-up and reserve list
If a booking isn't made within the 8-week timeframe, we will follow up once before closing the application. We maintain a reserve list for any cancellations, ensuring opportunities for those in need.
Frequency of breaks and booking timeframe
Typically, one Respite and Recovery break is allowed per three-year period with our partners Pure Leisure, though exceptions may be made based on individual circumstances. Breaks must be booked no more than 8 weeks in advance.
Think Respite & Recovery may be right for you?
Please read the eligibility criteria above before applying. Applications are individually assessed and meeting an eligibility criterion does not guarantee that a respite break will be provided.
